Virgin Galactic – A small step for a company, a giant leap for the industry
24 May 2021
With the success of its latest test-flight, Virgin Galactic has reached a significant milestone towards commercial operations and revived its equity story. But it is the whole industry and our Security & Space thematic that could benefit in its wake.
Bottom line
Virgin Galactic successfully completed a full test flight of its suborbital spacecraft SpaceShipTwo. This success marks an important milestone for Virgin Galactic, as the test had been much delayed due to engine problems. More importantly, this flight will allow the company to resume its test program which should conclude next year with the start of commercial operations. Regular commercial space tourism is, therefore, closer than ever to become a reality. In our view, this will mark the beginning of a new era for the whole space market and renew interest from investors, possibly triggering a rerating of the overall sector.
