Mid-year review 2022 - Fintech: From disruption to profitability

The macroeconomic situation does not help cyclical and B2C activities. But the future of Fintech looks brighter as challengers keep gaining market share and accelerate their transition toward profitability.

Bottom line

Fintech democratizes financial services. Technology is being levered to improve user experience and deliver customized and personalized financial solutions. The commoditization of the financial industry imposed by the incumbent banks will end. Every non-financial company will have the possibility to offer financial services.

The fintech ecosystem has become mature enough to provide personalized services at scale. Companies can now focus on their subsequent development phase: profitability. Given the current macroeconomic environment, fintech companies have no choice but to make this healthy transition.

Technology enablers will benefit from increased demand for software as a new investment cycle from the traditional financial players has started. This should not cause a significant threat for challengers, who will keep gaining market share thanks to their technological know-how and approach to meeting younger generations' behavior. New opportunities introduced in the last outlook, like the "finverse" or the automated financial world, are more relevant than ever.
